This article was published by Islamic Finance News (IFN) on 26th October 2016 as a pre-promotion for The Royal Award for Islamic Finance 2016. Joined interviews by newspaper journalists from IFN, The News Straits Times and Berita Harian was conducted at the Securities Commission Malaysia. I was one of the industry leaders invited for the interview. The other two are Kyri Andreou, the director and co-founder of AtaPlus, an equity crowdfunding platform, and Raja Teh Maimunah, CEO of Hong Leong Islamic Bank.
The following are my key thoughts covered in the article:
- Malaysia is well positioned to take advantages of the fintech opportunities.
- The Islamic fintech movement could leverage on Malaysia’s vibrant Islamic finance industry which is attributed to strong government and regulatory support.
- However since fintech is about innovations, there should not be too many or too detail guidelines.
