Proud to share that Silverlake Axis has been awarded with Global Islamic Finance Award, the Best Islamic Finance Solution Provider for the fourth year running. Being the point person for Islamic Banking and finance in Silverlake group, I am indeed grateful for this achievement. This has not been possible without very supportive management and great team work.
When I first joined Silverlake in 1997, I had never imagined that I was going to stay this long and could go this far. I had come from a multinational company ESSO (now ExxonMobil) but Silverlake was then just an 8 year old company with less than 300 people with footprints only in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Fast forward 22 years, I am delighted to say that I have grown together with the company with now more than 5000 employees and presence in various part of the world providing IT Solutions for multiple industries.
I was first assigned to a project as an analyst programmer to implement Islamic financing IT system at Bank Islam Malaysia. It was an exciting experience for me to learn about Islamic Banking and finance while mastering the overall offerings of Silverlake Integrated Banking System. Thereafter as I gained more experience, I moved on from one project after another taking bigger and bigger responsibilities as team leader, project manager and project director. At the same time, I have also done a significant amount of pre-sales work and product development. Over the years, I had carved a niche and developed a strong team specializing in Islamic Banking and finance.
After 10 years of picking up Islamic banking over the course of my interactions with Islamic bankers in understanding their system requirements and attending some relevant trainings, I decided to get academic qualifications in Islamic finance to complement my IT background so that I could speak about my subject with authority. I then signed up for Post Grad Diploma and subsequently Master in Islamic Banking and Finance. While it was challenging to juggle between my busy working schedule with part time study, my post grad study was really a fulfilling experience. I am now able to articulate my subject matter much better and most importantly able to address challenging questions or issues raised by existing and prospective clients with more convincing propositions. I have also developed a strong network in Islamic finance industry.
This award shall continue to motivate me to achieve more. With the blessing of the Almighty, I shall be dedicated to contribute in whatever ways that I could towards Islamic Banking and Finance especially in the digitalization of Shariah compliant product and services.
